bump.

I am pretty sure I have answered this question many times in the comments feed of our videos on our channel, http://www.youtube.com/martellbrothersllc and the application page itself.

You need to make content that people want to watch. Random speed art videos is unfortunately not something people are actively searching for on Youtube.

With my network, we want to help people become successful but we can't work miracles.

Just so you know, this forum isn't just for the network. It's a general purpose forum for Youtubers who are Partners or want to be Partners. But I'll still answer your question.

1) Our standard contract lasts two years. This is because we invest money into marketing our Partners and we need time to recoup that investment. Some Youtube networks like TGN allow people to come and go as they please, but they also do absolutely no promotion for the majority of their Partners.

2) Content ID matches are copyright strikes waiting to happen. All it takes is for the company to get into an earnings dispute with Google or sell their online video rights to someone else, and every video they match will be taken down, resulting in copyright strikes to your channel. For this reason we don't allow Content ID matches in our network.

General Youtube Discussion / New YT Layout
« on: October 24, 2012, 11:05:45 PM »
How are you guys liking it so far?

For me,

PRO: I like being able to see what YT videos are being shared on my FB and Twitter networks. It also seems to also share Pages and communities I'm following, not just my FB friends.

PRO: It's much easier to see the recent updates from the channels I subscribe to.

CON: The right side of the page suggests I subscribe to the same damn "already-super-popular" Youtubers I've known about for years, but am never going to sub to. I have no way to get rid of them either.

CON: Public view counter is a lot less than what my Analytics data shows. About 40% of our views aren't being shown for http://www.youtube.com/martellbrothersllc  Same with the subscriber count.

CON: There is way too much white space on my big monitor.

If you applied to my network and didn't hear back in a few days, it's likely because you applied to the network with videos that used other people's music that they didn't give you permission to use.

That's the #1 reason why we reject applications, and we don't write back to people telling them we rejected them because people should have read our guidelines before they applied.

So check our guidelines page again at http://youtubepartners.info/regulations-requirements/ and then look at your channel to see what the issue might be. You can always apply again.

I've had counter-claims before. They put in obviously fake info, like having their address be a police station or claiming they live in Germany when their channel says USA.

I had a lawyer who was helping me go after several individuals who were purposely re-uploading my videos again and again to flood Youtube search results, burying my original videos. It was going to take 2 grand, after all the paperwork and hours of time for the lawyer. The court filing itself was going to be several hundred dollars. I just didn't have the money to burn.

You've got a lot of potential.

One thing I'd recommend is not using music you don't have a license for. You'll get much further using music you are allowed to monetize and that won't come up in Content ID matches.

You can find thousands of creative commons music cleared for commercial use here,

http://freemusicarchive.org/search/?adv=1&quicksearch=&music-filter-Artist=1&music-filter-Album=1&music-filter-Track=1&music-filter-CuratorLabel=1&music-filter-Tags=1&search-genre=Genres&search-artist=Artist&search-curator=&commercial=1

I also freely distribute royalty free loops on my website at http://youtubepartners.info/downloads/

General Youtube Discussion / Re: Mobile Ads?
« on: August 28, 2012, 01:55:32 PM »
I don't think the announcement was intended to sound like they were playing ads on more devices. I think it was just to say that True View system is now working on mobile platforms which have monetized views, which isn't all of them.

17
The problem is that one post can consume almost the entire screen, whereas on Facebook you can have a dozen people's messages per screen.

Youtube has also made their feeds so that posts consume more of the screen's space, which means less videos get visibility.  In my experience, the majority of people don't  scroll down pages, which is also why the top 3 results on any Google Search receive the most traffic.

This might sound insulting, but the majority of people have tunnel vision.

This blows. Google+ is a crappy service that emulated Facebook without fully understanding what made it good; user-friendliness. I hardly ever see anything anyone posts on Google+ unless they specifically tagged me in it.

AdSense Discussion / Common Questions about Youtube AdSense earnings
« on: August 24, 2012, 11:57:39 AM »
This sticky is designed to answer the majority of common questions people have about Youtube earnings through AdSense.

Q: Am I paid if a viewer skips an ad?

A: No. True-View was specifically designed to benefit advertisers, not Youtube Partners. It allows Advertisers to not waste money on ads a viewer is not interested in watching.

More information: http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2375464

Q: What is click bombing?

A: Clickbombing, also known as invalid click activity, is when users spam click on your ads in an attempt to inflate your earnings. They do this because AdSense is designed to lock down your account if it suspects fraudulent click activity. Youtube has many trolls who are aware of this and if they want to hurt you, they will attempt to click bomb you. It's very important that all Partners monitor their AdSense earnings daily and report any suspicious earnings. If you are click bombed, read the Youtube Partner Click Bombing Survival Guide to find the steps to protect your account and halt the click bombing.

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/06/apple-to-remove-youtube-app-from-iphone-and-ipad/

For those who don't know, Apple and Google have been at odds since Google entered the phone market with Android. This is part of that "war".

So the question is, how will this impact our views? A lot of people used the app to watch Youtube videos on mobile devices, but at the same time I hate the app because it promotes the top tier of Youtube Partners and leaves the rest of us sunk.

General Youtube Discussion / Re: Mobile Ads?
« on: August 22, 2012, 11:08:25 PM »
I'm not sure. All I know is that thousands of my views come from mobile devices and the majority went un-monetized.

Youtube Partner support recently sent me a questionnaire asking a lot of things, among which is if monetization of mobile views was something I wanted. Obviously I said yes.

General Youtube Discussion / Networks can "reclaim" usernames
« on: August 22, 2012, 06:02:02 PM »
An often asked question is if Youtube partners can claim the usernames of banned or inactive accounts, because they have heard of Partners doing it before. However Youtube Partner support employees have always said it's not possible.

Then today I stumbled upon this image of the settings for a full CMS account. Behold.

http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2481196

I guess Networks can reclaim usernames just by accessing that form. Everyone else is SOL.

General Youtube Discussion / Re: Mobile Ads?
« on: August 22, 2012, 01:14:46 PM »
From my understanding mobile ads were only showing on Android based mobile devices. It may be different now but I'm unsure. I've had a few monetized mobile views but Apple dominates the handheld market.

I think this update just means they added the TrueView engagement to ads that play on mobile devices. This is better for advertisers than for us, because advertisers don't have to pay if ad is skipped.

These days Google is just using the Youtube Creator blog to announce anything related to Youtube.

24
Update on this.

Apparently what happened is Youtube had added "highlights for feeds" to the subscriber page months before they announced the feature, and did it as a stealth change that nobody knew about.

If you don't know what "highlights for feeds" is, here is a video where I show what it is and how much it sucks,

Pinterest can be a powerful tool for bringing views to a Youtube channel but only if people are re-pinning your content. This thread is designed to help Youtubers obtain some followers and re-pins to their board.

For a detailed explanation on what Pinterest can do for you, check out this article, "How to get Pinterest traffic to your Youtube videos".

Simply post a URL to your Pinterest account and describe what kind of content you pin. Other Youtubers can then browse this list and follow one another.

For example,

I want to add that one of the best ways to build awareness of this forum is to include a link to it on your Youtube channels.

A demonstration can be found on my RPG Fanatic Show Youtube channel,

While logged into your account go to your channel watch page and click the 'Edit' button beneath the Search channel module.

This will bring up a module that allows you to type in a title and URL you'd like to include on your channel watch page.

After entering http://www.abetterpartnerforum.com for the URL and "A Better Youtube Partner Forum" as the title of the URL, click the blue "Add" button to generate the link. When you can position the URL using the horizontal lines on the link module. When you have everything set where you want it, click the "Apply" button at the very bottom of the module below your Country settings.

You can also include a link to the forum on your personal websites. Doing so will help increase the visibility of the forums, which brings more people here for you to network with.  ;D

ADDITIONALLY I have put this video together on one of my channels and published it under a Creative Commons license. You are free to place this video on your own channels so long as you include a link to at the very start of your description to http://www.abetterpartnerforum.com!

A Better Youtube Partner Forum Ad#1

For instructions on how to locate this Creative Commons video and add it to your channel please read this link http://www.youtube.com/t/creative_commons/

Simply make your own short intro video and then mix my video after your intro video and you will be golden :)

AdSense Discussion / Click Bombing Survival Guide
« on: August 18, 2012, 11:40:46 AM »
Invalid click activity, also known as "Click bombing", is a major concern for Youtube Partners. Many Partners have lost their Partnerships because they had competitors or trolls spam clicks on ads in order to cause their AdSense to be disabled.

This has personally happened to me a few times and each time I was able to make the correct steps to maintain my AdSense account.

I've shared information about how to survive a click bombing on my blog, Youtube Video Marketing Strategies.  I've stickied this thread so the information can be quickly found by those who need this information.

Why can't I view that Google forum link?

That Google Product forum was created by Youtube Partner Support about a year ago, and they only invite Partners who receive invites for the webinars and actually attend them. So there is just a handful of Youtube Partners who can access it; that's why I pasted what David said here.

That is another reason why this forum we have is good; Youtube doesn't treat all Partners equally and doesn't inform everyone of what they are doing. So we need places like this to share the information.

Lame. They rarely ever have meetups in NY so I can't even attend.

Would it be possible for you to get a screencap of the posts on that forum then tell us what they talk about there?

As new topics come up that are interesting, I can try.

Quote
http://youtubecreator.blogspot.com/2012/08/youtube-now-why-we-focus-on-watch-time.html

"Over the past few months we have made some changes to YouTube to encourage people to spend more time watching, interacting, and sharing with the community.

To support this, we’ve updated what we call video discovery features, meaning how our viewers find videos to watch via search and suggested videos. These changes better surface the videos that viewers actually watch, over those that they click on and then abandon.

Why this shift? Our video discovery features were previously designed to drive views. This rewarded videos that were successful at attracting clicks, rather than the videos that actually kept viewers engaged. (Cleavage thumbnails, anyone?)

Now when we suggest videos, we focus on those that increase the amount of time that the viewer will spend watching videos on YouTube, not only on the next view, but also successive views thereafter.

If viewers are watching more YouTube, it signals to us that they’re happier with the content they’ve found. It means that creators are attracting more engaged audiences. It also opens up more opportunities to generate revenue for our partners.

These changes have so far proved very positive -- primarily less clicking, more watching. We saw the amount of time viewers spend watching videos across the site increase immediately, and this positive trend has continued as we’ve made additional tweaks to our suggestions. Improvements in the stats we measure, such as average view duration, provide a solid indication that the videos we are recommending throughout the site are even more engaging."

I suppose this change does reduce the usefulness of autosurf services (sites where people watch a video for 30 seconds and earn points / money) and click bots to manipulate related videos feeds but at the same time this opens the door for people to "punish" competitor videos by sticking them into autosurf sites or using click bots to cause their videos to have low engagement ratings.

If you are having difficulty registering a new account, the answer to the first field is yes.

You must also scroll to the very bottom of the sign up page and choose "Yes" from the drop down menu which asks you if you are human.

These questions were made part of the sign up process in order to put a halt to the bots who were signing up to the forum as soon as we made it live again. After adding these questions we have no more bot trouble  :D

Hi Bryan, welcome to the forum!

I've updated your profile to Full Partner status! You should be able to access all the forums now!

45
This was posted by David Boyle earlier today on Google's Youtube Partner Product Forum (some of you may not be able to read this forum),

"We're making tags private.  Please keep providing tags with your uploads, but we're not showing them to viewers on watch pages anymore.  We will use them in aiding discovery of your videos as we've always done.  We didn't see a lot of usage of tags by the average viewer.  We did see some abusive users copying tags from other videos in an attempt to manipulate our discovery systems. "

I'm not sure if I believe the reason they gave. I think tags actually play very little role in Youtube Search results, with the title and description area being a lot more important. There are many viral videos that have barely any tags at all.

What do other people think?

Youtube Partner Tips & Tricks / How to make money on Youtube
« on: August 16, 2012, 07:26:44 AM »
This thread is designed to educate folks on how to make money on Youtube, which is a common question on the official Youtube Partner forums.

Although the Partnership program has been out for several years now there are still many people who are unaware that many small businesses exist who operate exclusively on Youtube. Streaming video has become a huge industry and this thread will talk about some of the ways people earn a living using it.

#1 Youtube monetized video views

Pretty much every Youtube channel can be connected to a Google AdSense account to allow ads to play on the video watch pages or during a video as a pre-roll, mid-roll or end-roll. Google pays the owner of the Youtube channel whenever the earnings reach $100 dollars. Although ad amounts fluctuate based on what advertisers are willing to pay for certain keywords, generally speaking you can expect to earn $1 for every 1,000 monetized video views your channel receives.

#2 Affiliate programs and Stores

Many Youtubers create video blogs which review products they find on other websites such as Amazon. The channel owner then adds a link to the product in the description box of the video with their affiliate program ID number (such as Amazon Affiliates) so that if someone clicks on the URL and buys the product the Youtuber receives a commission on the sale.

Some Youtubers also sell their own products using the Youtube Store app, which allows products from Amazon, Cafepress, TopSpin and Apple iTunes store to be sold directly from a Youtube video watch page or the Youtube channel page.

#3 Selling Ad Space on Youtube channels

Some big name Youtubers will place 30-60 second advertisements for products in their latest video. Depending on how many views your channel receives this can be a great way to make money. Additionally some Youtubers will change their background to help advertise a product and include URL links on their channel watch page that lead to a promoted website.

#4 Youtube video rentals

Youtube Partners are able to make feature films they upload available for rent on Youtube. The service is not as popular as others such as Netflix but there are still many Youtubers who make decent money renting out special feature film videos to their fanbases.

If you know of any additional methods to make money with Youtube feel free to share it by posting below. This post will be updated periodically.

We here at www.abetterpartnerforum.com are in the process of starting a link exchange program for members of this forum.

This year Google has made major changes to Youtube, some of which many of us are unhappy about as they have made it harder to get our video content seen. It has become even more important for Youtubers to crosspromote to tap into each other's audiences and this link exchange program is designed to put Youtubers in contact with each other.

The specific details of the program are still being devised and we are open to suggestions on how best to accommodate everyone. At the moment we are planning to handle the exchanges by category; for example, Gaming Partners should cross-promote with Partners who make content related to gaming. Cross-promotion on Youtube works best when the kind of content being plugged is very similar.

One of the perks of being a member of this program is to have your channel advertised on this forum in a rotating banner exchange.

Here are a few key things we are suggesting be required for members who join the program:

  • Members will be required to place back-links to websites owned by other members of the link exchange program. This helps everyone's videos rank higher in search engine results.
  • Members will need to include a link to www.abetterpartnerforum.com  on their Youtube channel pages and create at least one video informing their subscribers about the forum, with a link to the forum at the start of the video's description. This will help increase the visibility of the forum, which increases the amount of traffic everyone in the program will receive
  • Members will need to plug videos from other members on their Facebook Page and Twitter accounts.
  • Members will need to create a playlist on their channel which has videos from other members in the Link exchange program.
All members interested in being part of this link exchange program should make a new thread in this forum with the following information:

  • URL links to the Youtube channels you own
  • What kind of content you create on your channels.
  • Your geographical location (so that you might find other Youtubers local to you who can make videos with you)

ADDITIONALLY I have put this video together on one of my channels and published it under a Creative Commons license. You are free to place this video on your own channels to count as your promotional video, so long as you include a link to at the very start of your description to http://www.abetterpartnerforum.com!

Please read the FORUM RULES before posting!

(If you are having difficulty signing up to the forum, the name of this forum is A Better Youtube Partner Forum )

Here at www.abetterpartnerforum.com we strive to create an environment where Youtube Partners can have quality discussion about the industry and find other Partners to collaborate with. For this reason we have certain boards restricted to those members who have been verified to have Youtube Partner channels.

In order to make the most of this board you should let us know in this forum if you are a Youtube Partner. We will then update your user group status so that you may access these exclusive boards.

If you are a new member to this forum and also a full Youtube Partner, please make a NEW thread in this forum with a link to your Youtube profile. We will then send a PM to this account to verify your ownership of it. We will verify your status based on whether you have branding options (banner space) or other special options (Shows, Livestream, Stores, etc) that are exclusive to Full Partner accounts on Youtube.

Also feel free to write something about yourself and what kind of content you live, including geographic location. This will make it easier for other Partners to decide how they might collaborate with you!
